Learn Well's Foundations Program
...a FUN way for young children to build fundamental math,
comprehension and memory skills.

Classes offer a fun social environment in which kids participate in activities that enhance basic math, comprehension and memory skills. Movement, deep breathing, stretching and hydration are incorporated into each session. Research shows that attention to these principals can maximize brain function.

Students are provided with a variety of motivational tips, effective strategies and hands-on activities designed to improve basic skills. Each skill-based activity targets a specific concept that promotes academic success.

Picture This
Goal: To strengthen comprehension skills through visualization strategies and relaxation techniques.

Good readers automatically create visual images as they read. In order to develop visualization skills, young children need to exercise their imaginations. This can be a challenge in our technological world. Video and television programs visualize for us, while today's toys come equipped with 'sights and sounds'.

Picture This invites students to experience the joy of exploring their own imagination. The ability to visualize is built upon strong imagery skills. Stories come to life when children learn to visualize words in their own minds.

Story telling, interpretive illustration, verbal retelling and guided visualization activities are utilized to develop children's visualization skills. Young minds flourish as reading opens the door to the exciting world of imagination.

Memory Power
Goal: To increase memory skills by implementing brain-based learning strategies which aid in retention and strengthen recall.

Water, oxygen, movement and certain foods maximize brain power. Stress decreases that power. The first step toward increasing one's memory function is to create the optimal conditions for the brain.

Students who participate in Memory Power partake in activities and routines designed to 'fuel the brain'. With 'ready minds' they rotate through stations that offer a variety of games and personal challenges. While doing so they are encouraged to exercise various memory strategies such as; rhyme, visual templates, chunking, comical imagery, mnemonics, meaningful association, musical recall, and many more.

In addition to having fun, the ultimate goal of this program is for children to internalize effective memorization strategies and use them automatically.
